I am a graduate from Whitworth University, having finished my studies in May of 2022. I graduated with a a Bachelor's of Science for Computer Science and in addition a Bachelor's of Arts in General Mathematics. I did more than just study for my classes however, as I used my interests outside of the classroom and participated in a variety of other actives with those around me.
Currently, I am actively going through the process to begin work at Naval Nuclear Laboratory!
My pursuit of a degree comes out of a genuine interest in technology and how it works. My objective isn't to pass the class, but to excel and improving my abilities. This work ethic was recognized as I earned the Nupen Computer Science award for exceptional achievement from Whitworth University for both 2019 and 2020. I've also received the Senior Departmental Scholarship in 2021. In my final year, I was awarded the Outstanding CS award by the department.
Initially when starting at Whitworth I had only intended to get a B.S. in Computer Science. However through my drive to go beyond what is only required for my degree, I realized I found I would be able to add another if I took a few more math courses, and so I added a B.A. for Mathematics to my educational background.
I didn't spend my time just doing schoolwork! I have also been an active member of Whitworth Gaming Club as a member, treasurer, vice president, and then president (3 years in leadership in total) during my time at Whitworth University. My role had been more than just playing games (though our club's goal is to offer a place for students to connect and have fun). During my time as an office, I grew into taking on the role of leader and coordinating with officers for regular meetings both online and offline events. I've also used my technical knowledge to setup a public Minecraft server using a raspberry pi to allow the community be able to enjoy an online experience and help reduce the hosting costs for the club budget. Although with graduation I may no longer be an officer, I continue participating in the community I helped grow with supporting the continuing to host the server.
Outside of the club environment, I've used the knowledge and skills I've gained from the classes to help others. From 2019 to 2021 academic years, I personally tutored a student in pre-Calculus, Calculus I, and Calculus II to help both learning the material and in preparation for exams.
For my final year at Whitworth, I also took on the role as Event Coordinator for the university's ACM club. As Event Coordinator and experience as a club officer for the gaming club, I helped in planning out what needs to be done to make our outreach programs possible. This has been especially important with new policies introduced to address health concerns during the COVID pandemic. Events I have helped make possible include a Git Workshop to help educate and starting experience of the command line to use git and GitHub for new students. Our team brought back the club's relevance in the local CS community.
Catan by Klaus Teuber is one of many tabletop games I enjoy playing with others.
A photo at my family property in Montana, one of my favorite places to go to.
Beyond my studies and role in my communities, I also have physical activities be an important part of what I do. I've been snowboarding or skiing for about 10 years, improving my abilities every season. I also regularly enjoy camping in Montana, spending nights in the outdoors with the forest squirrels as my alarm clock for the morning! A recent hobby that I've added is hiking, exploring national parks and forests such as Mt. Rainer and facing a variety of conditions.
Activities such as these have offered a wonderful contrast to the world of computers that I spend most days working on, creating a more complete and fulfilling lifestyle.
